Industry Moves: Last.fm Bags Yahoo’s Agency Sales Head For European Expansion

Yahoo (NSDQ: YHOO) UK and Ireland’s head of agency sales Miles Lewis is following commercial director Blake Chandlee out the door and is joining Last.fm. Lewis is becoming the music social network’s head of European advertising sales as the site begins a continental expansion drive, opening sales offices in countries like Poland, Germany and France, NMA says.

At Yahoo, former AOL (NYSE: TWX) agency sales head Lewis had reported to Chandlee, who has quit to become Facebook’s UK sales director. Together, both moves would seem to illustrate the growth momentum is in social networks. Lewis’ parting shot: “Last.fm has 20 million users worldwide – that’s the size of Yahoo in the UK.”

Expect a much bigger advertising emphasis. CBS (NYSE: CBS) bought the London-based music site for $280 million (£137 million) in May and CBS president and CEO Leslie Moonves said last week at Mipcom in Cannes:
