Research: Youngsters Not Fleeing Social Networks, They’re Just Moving To Facebook

Are UK 15-to-24-year-olds really growing tired of social networking? Ofcom last week reported (p289) a five percent fall-off, to 50 percent, in the proportion of the age group that uses such sites – but comScore (NSDQ: SCOR) today says the number of them visiting in June actually increased 14 percent from last year, to 6.8 million.

comScore SVP Mike Read, in the release, says Ofcom’s findings are “simply not the case” and the truth is “just the opposite”: “What does appear to be happening is that younger users are beginning to consolidate around Facebook and are spending less time on competing sites.
