By Robert Andrews

Yet another way in which “social” online is powering real-world consumer interactions – recommendation of local tradesmen.

Where 4iP-backed MyBuilder has gone before it, RatedPeople is now taking on £3 million in venture funding from Frog Capital so it can add new staff and go on developing its platform and mobile apps.

The six-year-old site says it clocked £7 million revenue last year and was profitable for the third consecutive year. It lists 30,000 local tradesman like bricklayers, builders and carpenters. The business model – it’s a way for builders to find work and homeowners to get a good deal from someone who isn’t a cowboy. Another is Checkatrade.
