Nurses treated after hospital fire

Nine people have been treated at a north Wales hospital after a fire broke out in adjoining nurses’ residences.

The doctors, nurses and other staff were taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor following the blaze in the neighbouring Llys yr Onen building.

The incident occured at 0304hrs BST on Sunday.

Twenty-eight staff were evacuated from the residences after the fire was found in a first-floor bedroom.

Two had minor injuries and seven were suffering from smoke inhalation.

Three fire engines, from Bangor and Menai Bridge, were called to the scene.

North Wales Fire Brigade is investigating the cause of the blaze, which is not being treated as suspicious.
