Blyk, the free ad-funded European mobile operator due to launch this summer, has just announced its first wave of advertisers includes some major brand names. Buena Vista, Coca-Cola, I-play Mobile Gaming, L’Oreal Paris, StepStone and Yell.com will be on-board when Blyk, run by Nokia’s former president, makes its debut in the UK. The company will offer free mobile usage to customers in the desirable 16-to-24 age bracket if they agree to take ads on the handsets. Blyk said it will offer advertisers a “sophisticated profiling system” allowing advertisers to track campaigns and would involve “creative ad formats”, but did not elaborate on exactly what form the ads would take. The Guardian claims Blyk will run on the Orange network.
