Vodafone looks set to offer mobile TV service from Portugal’s most popular broadcaster after completing successful DVB-H trials. The telco’s Portuguese wing, which enjoys number two position in the country, broadcast eight live TVI Portugal channels to a panel of Samsung handset users. The pair are using Thomson’s SmartVision platform. Thomson Jacques Dunogue Thomson: “The Portuguese market represents a particularly interesting opportunity for launching new mobile services as the population are strong users of mobile phones. More than 60 % of all voice calls made in Portugal are made using mobile phones whilst the European average is only 43%.” (Mobile Europe).
