Back-To-Work Wire: OhmyNews In Europe, Metacafe Courts UK, DailyMe.tv Funded

– OhMyNews targets Europe: South Korean citizen journalism site OhMyNews is to launch a European version. Founder Oh Yeon Ho: “I hope I can keep introducing our model to other countries including Europe, North America and hopefully North Korea in the future. Why not? Actually, we are in talks with a European partner to launch an OhmyNews site in Europe.” The site has been hugely popular at home, its coverage helping to swing the 2002 election, but its first country-specific roll-out in Japan has failed to find its feet.

– YouTube has a lucrative new rival: No big surprise. Metacafe is hoping to sign up UK content owners, and is trying to tempt British filmmakers in particular, as part of an effort to bump up its profile on these shores. CEO Erick Hachenburg tells The Indie how the segment changed in 2007: “Last year, advertisers said you could never advertise on user-generated content. Now they are asking how they can advertise on user-generated content.”

– DailyMe.tv Financed For Self-Service Mobile Video: Berlin-based DailyMe.tv, a beta service letting mobile users subscribe to receive vidcasts and podcasts automatically to their handset, has raised an undisclosed amount from German investors. For those with a flat-rate data tariff, over-the-air podcasts could be great because they remove the need to transfer files from a computer to a mobile device. DailyMe.tv patented technology for the job and is planning both premium and ad-funded options. Release via AC Euro.
