The News Of The World has been forced to remove from its website a story that made lurid allegations about Derby County manager Paul Jewell’s private life. The story was published on Sunday but Jewell instructed lawyers to complain to publisher News International, The Guardian says. The story page now says “sorry, you are no longer able to view this page”, though the headline – “Prem boss in sex video shame” – remains. The genie is out of the bottle, having attracted 455 comments on Derby’s unofficial TheRams forum, for example. Once a piece of content is made digital, there’s little to stop reproduction – but lawyers are coming to believe that retrospective action may at least restore some semblance of respect in the complainant. Are they right… ?
