— Trinity Mirror: Redundancies are being sought at the Daily Record and Sunday Mail, the publisher tells J.co.uk, after rumours Trinity wants to make 35 there redundant following its UK-wide pay freeze.
— Telegraph: The publisher is looking to make redundancies in the next few weeks because ad sales are falling, newsprint costs are rising and digital income isn’t growing quickly enough, Guardian.co.uk says in an attributed story that nevertheless has two sources. Like The Independent, it sounds like a case of lancing a boil to save the life of the paper overall. The story also claims the Financial Times is planning to cut its 2009/10 budget by 10 percent.
— Breakingviews: The business news commentary wire started by ex FT Lex editor Hugo Dixon will have its stories carried by China’s Caijing daily business paper, in its latest syndication deal. Its columns will be published in Mandarin. Other destinations already on board include Telegraph, NY Times, IHT, Handelsblatt, Le Monde and El Pais.
— CarDesignNews: An acquisition that everyone seemed to miss – automotive publisher Ultima Media bought CarDesignNews, an eight-year-old website covering the car trade shows and concept designs. Ultima has added the site to its niche B2B portolio including Interior Motives and Automotive Logistics.
— Time Europe: As part of its big round of layoffs, Time Inc. let go of about 20 editorial staff from Time Europe, or nearly two-thirds of the entire U.K.-based team.
