Eurostar Sends French Shoppers Around London With Mobile Social App

Eurostar will on Saturday unveil a project designed to entice French female shoppers to London – using mobile phones, geolocation technology and Twiter-like updates. Devised by Eurostar’s marketers and social media consultant Caroline Maerten, Girly Geek Shopping aims to let the audience follow a group of 80 French and Belgian women on a shopping expedition to London – their locations will be plotted on a Google (NSDQ: GOOG) Map, tips and thoughts will be blasted out using tweet-like SMS-to-web updates and images will be snapped with the handsets. The organisers say they have developed a new mobile social app for the campaign. The visitors from across the water will be joined by 40 London girls later in the day. The catchphrase for the project: “Pound is low, it’s time to go/ London is just around the corner.”
