BBC.com started showing ads to non-UK visitors in November 2007. A Freedom Of Information request, submitted last month by Alfred Hermida, who helped found the BBC News website in 1997, asked the question – but the corporation denied it on two grounds…
(1) BBC Worldwide, which operates BBC.com overseas, is not subject to the Freedom Of Information Act
(2) the public-service BBC does hold the info but won’t release it, saying it’s “commercially sensitive” and would “prejudice BBC Worldwide
