It’s been rumoured since March, and now it’s official. Telefónica has got the exclusive on the Palm (NSDQ: PALM) Pre, “initially” in Spain (Movistar), the UK and Ireland (O2) and Germany (O2), “when the device is launched in Europe in time for the winter holidays”. That means Telefónica now has British, Irish and Spanish exclusives on both iPhone and Pre.
Telefónica Europe, in the release, couldn’t help but gloat about that fact: “We are fast becoming the home of the smartphone.” Interested customers can sign up for notification of the release date, though the sign-up URLs included in the release, managed by Palm, are not working at present.
