Cinema Admissions Rise 14.5 Percent During The Downturn

That old adage about people flocking to cinemas during recessions? Turns out to be true.

January-to-June UK theatre admissions rose 14.5 percent from last year to a seven-year high of 83.46 million, according to the European Audiovisual Observatory.

The rise happened amid showings of movies like Slumdog Millionaire, Monsters vs Aliens and Angels And Demons.

Still, that going out to the cinema is seen as credit-crunch entertainment is perplexing to some of us – at £6.50 a time minus the popcorn and Coke, it’s not like the old days.
