More than half of European journalists fear the the economic downturn and structural media changes will wipe out more than a tenth of their advertising income, PR network Oriella’s survey of 350 journos has found. Other findings…
— More than one in 10 say they will lose more than a tenth of their audience.
— A third fear that the old print or broadcast titles or channels they work for might be taken off the market.
— Most (nearly six in 10) think the number of printed media will shrink rapidly.
— Almost the same number reckons editorial quality will suffer through lack of resources.
— 52 percent say “online media are still far from profitable business models“.
Still, it’s not all bad…
— Most journalists said recent changes mean their journalism has either got better (33 percent) or stayed the same (40 percent). Only 16 percent said it’s got worse.
— And, despite what the NUJ might say, most journalists (55.5 percent) are just as happy as they were two years ago. 19 percent enjoy it more, 15 percent are having less fun.
