Mountain View-based Raptr, one of a few social systems for connecting console gamers through the web, has taken on $15 million more in venture funding.
On Raptr, people create profiles which contain their console online gaming credentials (here’s mine). The system analyses gameplay time and genre, can share gaming achievements out through social networks and can suggest friends and games to play and chat with. It basically enhances the game experience. Similar sites are GamerDNA and Xbox Live Nation. The near-fatal flaw – Sony (NYSE: SNE) doesn’t allow such sites to track Playstation Network gameplay.
Raptr took $3 million in angel funding from Max Levchin and James Hong and $9 million in first-round money upon launching in 2008 from Accel and Founders Fund. Latest investors are DAG Ventures, Tenaya Capital and Accel.
