Telegraph’s Digital Head: Open Mind On Web Fees

“Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) store is the most user-friendly route for subscribers,” Telegraph Media Group digital editor Edward Roussel tells paidContent:UK, after the publisher became one of the first to use Apple’s in-app subscription facility in its new iPad edition.

As well as supporting new paid subscriptions, the app will grant existing Telegraph print subscribers free access…

“This is critical,” Roussel says. “We have 335,00 subscribers and our strategy is to layer in more and more value to their subscription. Hence, they get the new app for free.

Reports late last year said The Telegraph will also implement charging on its website. But Roussel tells paidContent:UK: “(There is) no decision. We’re keeping an open mind.”

That’s the same response the group gave to the reports at the time.
