Guardian’s Digital Development Director Bracken Leaving In New Changes

Guardian News & Media digital development director Mike Bracken has stepped down after three years, in new Guardian Media Group CEO Andrew Miller’s ongoing executive changes.

Miller says he is making a new team, Digital Development, “combining the technology development and product management functions”. Back in November, GMG had promoted GNM’s Matt McAlister to be group-level digital strategy director.

After making GNM’s MD Tim Brooks redundant in February, GMG is now promoting Sheila Fitzsimons and Adam Freeman to be executive directors, respectively for “transformation” and commercial. The new digital team will report to both Fitzsimons and Freeman but no team leader had yet been announced.

In moves which appear designed to manage the ownership and eventual sale of GMG’s Emap and Trader Media Group holdings, GMG is also now hiring for a new chief investment officer role and is adding Alan Hudson from Merrill Lynch.

As executive director for transformation, Fitzsimons is expected to execute on “the plan to deliver our transition to a sustainable multi-platform organisation”, which appears part-predicated on Guardian.co.uk finding new U.S. audiences to sell to advertisers.
