Sky Anytime Signs On Paramount, Warner Bros Movies For VOD

BSkyB (NYSE: BSY) has agreed to terms with Paramount and Warner Bros to make the studios’ movies available on its Sky Anytime on-demand service. The service already had agreements with 20th Century Fox, Universal, Sony (NYSE: SNE) and Disney (NYSE: DIS) and claims to have served over two million movie downloads since launch in January 2006. Sky reckons the additions make it the first online VOD platform to offer titles from all six major studios. It’s run by Sky’s on-demand director Griff Parry.

Subscribers to Sky’s premium Sky Movies TV bundle can download around 500 titles for free, others get access to just over 30 on a pay-per-view basis at £3.95 each. The satcaster this month switched the Sky Anytime service from a downloadable desktop application to a “thin client” working inside a web browser and added more third-party channels to the lineup.
