Indy Redesign Worked – Audience Share Doubled

Independent.co.uk‘s January redesign doubled its online newspaper audience share and put it ahead of the languishing Mirror.co.uk, according to Hitwise stats. The site is now getting 10 times more traffic from Google (NSDQ: GOOG) (one in 25 hits), more from paid search advertising (11 percent of hits) and 9,000 more monthly hits searches (10,000 in March). All of which places it seventh on Hitwise’s list (behind Mail Online, Times Online, Sun Online, Telegraph.co.uk, Guardian.co.uk and FT.com, but ahead of Mirror.co.uk and The Express).

At this rate, Independent News & Media may even submit data to the more accepted ABCe auditor. But Indy users still aren’t as sticky as those of competitors, spending three minutes and 32 seconds on-site compared to upwards of five minutes on other broadsheet sites. Look at this chart and guess when the redesign went live…
