BT (NYSE: BT) says it added 24,000 IPTV customers between July and September – a third more than the same time last year – taking it up to 520,000.
Over 50,000 have subscribed through BT Vision to Sky Sports, which was added in August after Ofcom ruled BSkyB (NYSE: BSY) should more make its channels available more liberally.
BT says its hybrid DTT/IPTV box will add a version of BBC iPlayer during the second half of its fiscal year, and will add 3D TV and faster HD downloads by Christmas.
Ultimately, as BT is a YouView consortium member, Vision seems destined to spend its future as a generic YouView service, branded by BT.
Reporting quarterly earnings Thursday, BT says 114,000 broadband customer additions took it up to a 45 percent market share, and pushed its average annual customer revenue up £3 to £317.
It says it has 38,000 customers for its BT Infinity, fibre-based broadband network, and is taking 4,000 orders per week.
Quarterly BT Retail division sales dipped four percent from last year to £1.92 billion and, group-wide, dipped three percent to £4.97 billion. But reported group profit before tax is up 48 percent to £406 million.
