Centaur Finds Ads Returning, ‘Paid Content’ Clicking

The Lawyer and NMA publisher Centaur says paid content revenue, a new category comprising its circulation revenue and online subscriptions, rose 14 percent to £6.6 million in the second half of 2010.

It’s adding former iVillage GM Rebecca Miskin to its board to advise it on digital.

The paid content rise occurred because Centaur bought the Tax Briefs premium finance publisher last year.

Compared with other B2B publishers like Informa and Reed Elsevier (NYSE: RUK), Centaur is still relatively exposed to cyclical factors – just a quarter of its income comes from paidcontent; the majority, more than half, is from advertising.

But at least advertising revenue bounced back by 17 percent from a year earlier – digital advertising rose 29 percent and makes up 29 percent of the total. The company’s strongest gainer was its marketing and creative division, which gained on Marketing Week gaining more recruitment ads.
